5. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
Jake Roberts and his snake Damien have had some classic moments in the WWE, his feuds with the likes of Randy Savage and Rick Rude have to go down as some of the best in WWE history. Jake's charisma and ring presence were his prized assets and his innovative DDT was the cherry on top. Jake was in the WWE for six years yet after disputes with Vince McMahon about not being hired for the writing team, Jake left in the early 90s. He would go on to wrestle in the WCW feuding with the likes of Sting, however it would prove to be only a short stay and after a quick stop at a Mexican promotion AAA, Jake would return to WWE. After a four year lay off from the WWE Jake Roberts returned for a short stint in 1996 as a face who believed in the word of the bible and would preach his message through the WWE (this was to coincide with his real life missionary experiences). However the gimmick didn't really catch on with the WWE fans, who missed Jake's more outlandish behaviour from before. The only positive that came out of this misadventure was the birth of Austin 3:16 therefore the rise of Stone Cold's popularity in WWE. Jake Roberts once again left WWE, this time because he wanted to wrestle and not be part of the backstage team apparently this lead to a relapse and he was fired in 1997. Since his ill fated returned, Jake Roberts has wrestled for ECW, TNA and for various promotions in the UK. His alcohol and drug abuse was chronicled in a popular wrestling documentary Beyond The Mat, which showed Jake in bad shape and high on crack throughout the filming. Jake is currently living with Diamond Dallas Page and has been taping his recovery on YouTube for the world to see, word has it he could be making an appearance in the Royal Rumble next year.
"You sit there and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere! Talk about your psalms, talk about John 3:16... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!" Stone Cold, King of The Ring 1997
