50 Best WWE Matches Of The 90s

48. Shawn Michaels Vs. Owen Hart (In Your House: Rage In The Cage)

Shawn Michaels put his WWF title match against Bret Hart on the line against brother Owen, who had put Michaels out of action with an enzuigiri-related concussion the previous November. It was one of the better angles done on Raw to that point, although it didn't add much mystery towards was going to be an obvious win for Michaels. The match itself is tremendous, pitting Michaels in the plucky underdog role that he could milk like Ricky Morton in his prime. Hart landed the brain-rattling enzuigiri to heighten the drama, but wouldn't you know it, Michaels valiantly carries on. Michaels finished with the superkick not long after, just another four-star match in an endless collection for both men, really.

47. Triple H Vs. Steve Austin (No Mercy 1999)

With Vince Russo off to WCW, the parameters for just how overbooked a main event could be underwent something of a downshift. Sure, The Rock gets involved late in this WWF Championship match, but most of the body was about Austin and Helmsley trying to maul one another, with some inspired cleverness. Where else do you see one wrestler swing a camera crane into another? It's a no-frills match, but with frills, to put it one way. It was still the out-of-control, DQs-waived main event style of the Attitude Era, but confined to basically two people that can work a good match without trickery. Thanks to a match earlier on this show (that will be appearing later in this list), this Helmsley/Austin match is often sadly forgotten.
