It's hard to tell who gave the better performance: Ric Flair, in his sixty minutes of physical activity en route to winning the vacant WWF Championship, or announcer Bobby Heenan, Flair's adviser and advocate, who spent the majority of the match monitoring Flair's prolonged beating with whining concern. There's a reason why this match largely remains unseated as the greatest Rumble match ever. It's also a who's who of wrestling, with virtually every major WWF performer (sans Bret Hart and The Legion of Doom) taking part, with a real mystery as to who would come away with the belt. When Ric Flair drew number three, and subsequently played punching bag for every ensuing entrant, the match hit a high gear that never subsided. Heenan pleading with God to let Flair win, only to be dressed down by Gorilla Monsoon, never gets old.
5. Bret Hart Vs. Owen Hart (WrestleMania X)
At long last, the battle of the brothers took place, kicking off WrestleMania X. The story had been brewing for four months, centered around Owen's envy, his inability to escape Bret's looming shadow. Both brothers acted out their roles sharply en route to the match. Owen played it realistically vindictive, while regretful Bret promised to bring Owen all the fight he'd asked for. Even with high expectations, the match surpassed them all with a crisp wrestling exhibition that displayed each man attempting to top and corral the other, with Owen naturally taking shortcuts. Owen's victory was certainly an upset, by and far his biggest win to date. Bret would win the WWF Championship in the event's finale, setting up an entire summer of Bret vs. Owen rematches. No protests here.
