50 MMA Fights You Must Watch Before You Die

18. Brock Lesnar Vs. Shane Carwin - UFC 116

If you compare Brock Lesnar's career to some of his peers at heavyweight, it didn't last as long as many fans would've hoped. This is partially due to WWE flashing the cash, but his battle with diverticulitis also took him away from the sport for a year. Truthfully, he never really came back as the destructive powerhouse that he once was.

While Lesnar was on the road to recovery, heavy-handed big man Shane Carwin was knocking out everyone he fought in savage fashion. After beating former champion, Frank Mir, for the interim title, he had his sights set on unifying the heavyweight titles by beating Lesnar for the strap.

Their fight started as every other Shane Carwin fight had before it- with the heavyweight flooring Lesnar with a punch straight to the face. With Lesnar on the canvas, Carwin jumped all over him, landing a barrage of punches to the champion's face.

Despite taking more damage in five minutes than he had in his entire MMA career, when the second round began Lesnar looked as defiant as ever. Carwin, however, looked absolutely exhausted after using all of his energy to try and finish the fight in the first round. Noticing his opponent's lack of energy, Lesnar took Carwin down and quickly locked on a fight-ending triangle choke to retain his title.
