Contrast the last match with this one, which was actually the sequel to the previous year’s Taker/Michaels match. Even though it was Streak versus HBK’s career, the original is still widely regarded as the better of the two.

Still, Michaels and Undertaker delivered a great match deserving of the main event slot, trading near-falls and generally beating the tar out of each other. The end, with Taker reluctant to end Michaels’ career – until HBK slapped UT across the face – was beautifully done. It was a fitting match to end Michael’s in-ring career and carried on the legacy of the Undertaker for another year.
