A masterful match that led to a rare double-turn, Bret Hart and Steve Austin were feuding over the ending of the 1997 Royal Rumble, which Austin won after his elimination went unnoticed and he tossed Hart. The Hitman was the wronged babyface, while Stone Cold was the rattlesnake who would do anything to win.

Their WrestleMania 13 “I Quit” match was a vicious, brutal affair that saw Hart become increasingly violent, while Austin refused to give up. The scene of a blood-drenched Austin screaming in pain became an indelible image during the Attitude Era. The end result was Hart leaving to a chorus of boos, while fans chanted Austin’s name.

That is the kind of match WWE wishes it could pull off today.
