Yes, Ric Flair was still wresting into the 2000s. No, he wasn’t putting on the best of matches, mainly because he was well into his fifties, and his body had slowed down. But that didn’t stop the ‘Nature Boy’ from being one of the most entertaining characters on the roster.
As the elder statesman for Evolution, he was the ideal heat magnet, constantly living up to his moniker as ‘the dirtiest player in the game’. When he did wrestle, he was the perfect nostalgia act, putting on simple matches that mostly featured his famous knife-edge chops and the mandatory ‘WOOO’ response. In all, he was still fun to watch.
Then came WrestleMania XXIV and Flair’s retirement match.
In what can only be described as a whirlwind of drama and emotion, Flair and fellow technical master Shawn Michaels stole the show with an excellent match that proved to everyone watching why both men constantly receive such praise, even to this day. It was an outstanding match, and the closing moments brought genuine tears to both the wrestlers’ and fans’ eyes.
That should’ve been his final moment in wrestling; not in a garbage match with Hulk Hogan on TNA Impact.
