6 Best Second Generation Fighters In MMA Right Now

1. Kron Gracie (5-1)

It can't be easy trying to follow in the footsteps of Rickson Gracie. Rickson was long considered the champion fighter of the famous jiu-jitsu clan, with his exploits in MMA being chronicled in the excellent 1995 documentary Choke. Rickson also amassed a perfect 11-0 record in MMA fights during his career, finishing all of his bouts by submission.

Despite the weight of expectations on him, Kron has begun to carve out a legacy in his own right in both MMA and competitive grappling. Before making the leap into mixed martial arts, Kron won gold at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships, considered the most prestigious competition in competitive grappling.

Despite having little experience in the other aspects of MMA, Kron dived in at the deep end of the sport, signing with RIZIN in 2014. The prodigal son didn't disappoint, emulating his father by winning all four of his bouts in Japan via submission. Kron would later go to do what his father didn't by signing with the UFC and has since amassed a 1-1 record in the promotion, with his last fight coming in a hard-fought decision defeat by Cub Swanson in October.

Kron isn't the only second-generation MMA fighter out of the illustrious Gracie family though. His cousin, Khrony, is the son of UFC legend Royce Gracie but is yet to set the world on fire with a 2-1 record against much less experienced competition.
