6 Booking Steps To The Undertaker vs Sting At WrestleMania 32
3. The Road To Wrestlemania Begins
For Sting and The Undertaker to bow out quietly would be a disservice to both men's legendary careers. Their eventual collision needs to be as dark and as epic as absolutely possible. Both men are on limited schedules, but once WWE arrives at the Royal Rumble they need to have both men heading down the road to Wrestlemania together. Sting can appear once again at the Royal Rumble, saying that he can't wait any longer and that he's not here to play mind games, he's just here to fight. At this point, he's driving himself slowly insane and is struggling to keep it together in absence of The Undertaker, and it's only at this point that the Demon of Death Valley appears in person. Standing at the end of the ramp whilst shrouded in smoke as his spine-tingling music plays, he stands as the last outlaw of the WWE and wants to take the fight of his life to The Icon.
'Sting. It's just me and you. Always has been. Always will be.'
As both men gesture towards the Wrestlemania sign, it becomes clear where this is going to end up, and the match gets set in the following weeks. There doesn't need to be a great deal of storytelling, as both men's decades of back story provide all the detail; both men value honour and respect more than any championship, and both men have reached their time to stand down. It's just a pure contest to see who really is better after all these years of waiting.
