6 Damning Things Jinder Mahal's Title Reign Says About WWE
5. WWE Can Never Escape Their Past
There's nothing new to the idea that Vince McMahon is out of touch with modern audiences. It's one of the loudest complaints levied against the company, and while WWE couldn't possibly be as dominant as they are today if Vince was the crackpot he's often made out to be, Jinder's push fuels the argument.
Contrary to his nickname, 'The Modern Day Maharaja' is the most outdated performer in WWE today. He performs a borderline offensive foreign heel gimmick that'd draw massive heat in the '70s or '80s, but comes off corny in 2017. His physique was one of the main reasons he was pushed, just like in the old days, and he even works like a basic territorial era bad guy, building his slow, plodding matches around elongated headlock spots.
Everything about the guy screams "throwback," and not in a good way. He stands out not on merit, but because everything about him is trite and overdone, harking back to a point in history that wrestling has long since evolved from. This shows that no matter how talent-rich the WWE roster becomes (and it's stronger than ever in 2017), McMahon will never truly modernise his booking methods, particularly when it comes to headliners.
