6 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (July 21)
1. The Mexican Screwjob
It's all kicking off in Mexico, in which the elusive screwjob has reared its ugly head.
The story has it that Johnny Mundo was asked to bring with him fiancee Taya's AAA Reina de Reinas (Queen Of Women's) Title under the pretence of an office photoshoot last week. He was asked to leave the belt in their hands, but he might as well have teetered towards Mr. Burns' trap door; as soon as he relinquished it, AAA's Vampiro relinquished Raya of it. Vampiro made himself look as stupid as he did unscrupulous here by citing the dumbest reason possible: he suddenly decided that Taya's title capture was invalid because her choke didn't count as a submission. That is stupid enough. It does. Everywhere. Including AAA. The match in which she used the choke was a No Disqualification bout. And you thought WWE didn't care about its own history.
All of this was engineered to sweeten the deal for Sexy Star's return, who had left the company (high and dry) originally to pursue a career in boxing. That went about as well as Vampiro's social media PR drive, in which he attempted to portray himself as the babyface. The sentiment of the backlash is best summed up by Mundo himself:
"The locker room thinks you, Vampiro, are a 2 faced lying douche bag who believes his own lies."
