6 Potential Opponents For Jushin Liger In NXT

Sami Zayn injured his shoulder in May and was expected to be out of action for an estimated six months. When he returns, he will have lost a considerable amount of momentum, despite his soaring popularity and highly-praised match with John Cena.

In order for him to get back into the NXT Championship picture again, Zayn will need to do something drastic, shocking and extremely impressive in order for his credibility to be back where it was when he first won the belt: defeat the legendary Jushin Liger.

Unlike the aforementioned Apollo Crews, Zayn is barely bigger than Liger, and has made a career out of being an underdog. The storyline that was built around his NXT Title victory was so well-received because he played the never-say-die fighter so well, and that kind of storytelling can work perfectly here as well.

However, instead of building the rivalry around a championship, this feud could be built around the fact that Liger holds two victories over Zayn. That could easily be transformed into a justification for Zayn needing to fight Liger, and would be more than enough to get Liger to accept a challenge (Liger was, after all, trained in NJPW, where fighting spirit and honor are greatly respected).

In terms of wrestling quality, you’d get a truly exciting match with these two. Both men are highly-innovative athletes who work a faced-paced, dramatic style that combines multiple disciplines and psychologies together into a seamless story. You'd definitely get main-event quality wrestling with these two, that’s for sure.
