6 Potential Opponents For Jushin Liger In NXT

Itami’s NXT career has been considered lukewarm in some respects. A major reason for that is Itami’s wrestling style: he’s a short, soft-spoken, stiff striker with a little man complex who takes no prisoners. Even in the wrestling-focused NXT, Itami hasn’t been able to connect with the audience in the same way he did in NOAH, mainly because he’s had to scale back on the stiffness.

But that’s the problem: KENTA became such a big star because of his unrelenting stiffness, and few people in NXT have the stomach to deal with such pain on a regular basis.

That is, few people except Liger.

Not only does Hideo Itami have some experience in wrestling Jushin Liger, but these are two men who share a similar understanding of puroresu and stiff striking that few others in NXT could even comprehend. Seeing two highly-skilled Japanese wrestlers fight in NXT would be a main-event level match without a shadow of a doubt.

Liger would be the perfect opponent for Itami once he returns from injury. This could easily be turned into one of those ‘senior-versus-junior’ storylines that’s used in Japanese promotions, and would do wonders for Itami’s NXT career if fans could finally see him use his signature style against a legend that he has yet to meet in singles competition.
