6 Reasons The Rock Vs Rusev Must Happen At WrestleMania 31

6. It Would Push Rusev To The Next Level

Rusev's push has clearly been engineered to get him over as a dominant heel, but he is still very much a resident of the midcard. Without substantial interaction with the big names of the company, he could be doomed to a career of frustration and unrealised potential - a similar fate to others with foreign heel gimmicks such as Umaga and Wade Barrett. Like Rusev, both men had a huge impact within their first few months on the main roster, but suffered a crushing loss of momentum due to a lack of sustained success against big-name opposition (namely John Cena - surprise!) A WrestleMania match with The Rock could break Rusev out of this trend. The vast majority of the WWE roster would kill for a feud with Rocky, especially given the state of the company's midcard. It can be hard to remember a time when the WWE wasn't in such a state of stagnation, so long ago was it since they boasted a vibrant undercard of interwoven feuds and alliances. Nowadays the more complicated storylines are saved exclusively for the top handful of superstars, with everybody below them confined to frustrating cut-and-paste booking from which nobody really benefits. The Rock's arrival has the potential to change this, at least for Rusev. A WrestleMania victory over such a legendary opponent would obviously see his stock rise greatly, but coming out on top isn't entirely necessary. Even being associated with Dwayne Johnson places Rusev in a category apart from his midcard peers, leaving him in a position afterwards to mix with figures such as Cena and Bryan without seeming too far from their level.
