6 Reasons The Rock Vs Rusev Must Happen At WrestleMania 31

1. It Would Satisfy The Fans' Big-Name Lust

One of the worst things about the Cena/Rock double-header at Wrestlemania 28 and 29 was the fact that it set the bar too high. Although underwhelming in terms of quality, the bouts established an expectation among fans of a galactic marquee match that is simply impossible to deliver annually. Last April's event arguably provided another of these in the form of Lesnar vs Undertaker, but the decision to break the streak has robbed any future Taker appearances of quite the same magic. Being brutally honest, The Rock vs Rusev is never going to be the most memorable match on a WrestleMania card. Should it indeed appear at next year's show, it probably won't be the bout fans are talking about long after switching off the TV. However, this certainly doesn't mean it deserves no place. The match potentially has an incredibly important function in the future of WrestleMania itself. Not only would the bout deliver an incredible level of excitement and generate attention for the PPV, it would also benefit matches elsewhere on the card by satiating the fans' need for a huge superstar. If executed properly, it could represent something of a necessary transition in the WrestleMania lineage - a refocus on the current stars of the WWE by utilizing a megastar such as The Rock in a more limited role, rather than shoehorning him into the fragile main event scene.
