6 Shocks That Happened At WWE WrestleMania 34

2. The Streak... Is Over

Asuka STREAK OVER
WWE.com

After over two years and 275 matches, Asuka has fallen.

She was submitted by Charlotte Flair in last night's SmackDown Women's Title match. Her character's unique selling point is now gone, placing 'The Empress' in an unfamiliar position. She looks vulnerable for the first time in her WWE run, while Charlotte's legacy continues to grow, with this going down as the most impressive victory over her career to date.

Few had Flair pegged to win, and even fewer predicted she'd make the imposing Japanese star tap out, but that's exactly what happened. Wrestling's greatest modern streak is over. Asuka is no longer unbeatable, but human, and 'The Queen' has her scalp.

It's easy to spit bile at the bookers for their controversial decision, but there's a lot to unpack here, and it's probably best to let the dust settle before passing judgment. Still, it's extremely surreal. Asuka had to lose eventually, but could they have held off a while longer, and made more of this potentially game-changing moment?

Perhaps, but whatever happens next, let's hope the loss doesn't deal too much damage to the mighty 'Empress.'
