6 Superstars Whose Gimmicks Were Totally Ripped Off From Comics

6. Spider-Man And Arachnaman

Spiderman Anachrman Spider-Man tells the story of a young journalist, Peter Parker, who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and develops the same abilities as a spider: he can shoot webs from his wrists, he can stick to walls, and he can swing from tall buildings better than Tarzan ever could. At one point, he even mutated into a giant spider: Man Spider. Though he starts off as being a local crime fighter dressed in a red and blue outfit and mask, his story evolves into fighting with such other famous characters as the Sandman (no relation to the wrestling character), the Green Goblin, Venom, and Deadpool. To make a long story short, Spider-Man is one of the most recognizable and popular comic book heroes of all time. So what is wrestling€™s version of Spider-Man? Arachnaman (no, I€™m not joking) Though not technically a WWE creation, no list of bizarre gimmicks is complete without this one. Given to Brad Armstrong during his tenure in WCW in 1991, this gimmick was a prime example of wrestling promoters giving the finger to intellectual property. Apart from a different color scheme between comic book hero and wrestling zero (blue and red vs yellow and purple), pretty much everything else about Arachnaman screamed Spider-Man instead. So much so that Marvel threatened to sue WCW for copyright infringement, so WCW quickly abandoned the gimmick, and Brad Armstrong never had to worry about Spider-Man jokes again€at least I hope so.
