6 Terrible Final Holders Of Wrestling Championships

5. WCW Hardcore - Meng

There's little question that Meng - better known by his WWE sobriquet Haku - was a perfectly suitable candidate for a Hardcore champion, even if the fact he is harder than a diamond on Viagra made him something of a division killer. And indeed, WCW's decision to put the gold on their man of ferrous (at least officially - he'd already been carrying the belt around as the de facto champ before that) at January 2001's Sin made perfect sense.

Or at least, it would have, had the impervious islander not waltzed out entirely unannounced as an entrant in rival WWE's Royal Rumble just a week later - whilst still the hardcore title holder. Whereas once Vince McMahon would have delighted in denigrating the opposition's championship on air - even if legal precedent from the Ric Flair fiasco meant he couldn't physically bin it - WCW was in such a state by this point that mentioning a returning talent's association with them did more harm than good.

Following Meng's defection, WCW likewise never made mention of the Hardcore Championship again. Though it was unofficially abolished, its final incumbent wasn't technically the last holder; Haku gave the belt to pal The Barbarian on a house show not long after leaving Atlanta.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
