WrestleMania season is upon us once again so it is with great pleasure that wrestling fans worldwide re-watch some of the greatest moments in the history of the Show of Shows. Many people consider the Intercontinental Championship match between 'Macho Man' Randy Savage and Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat to be the first great match in WrestleMania history and it is difficult to argue with that belief.

Savage came up short at WrestleMania III and Steamboat subsequently walked away from Pontiac with the IC strap, yet it was Savage who benefited in the long run. Fans were beginning to show their love for Savage and a position as the number two babyface in the company (behind Hogan) awaited; The Macho Man had outgrown the title he had helped to establish.

After running through the necessary house show rematches, the fan support for Savage continued to grow and grow, and after he won the King of the Ring later in the year, the babyface turn finally came, cementing Savage's position as the new hero of the fans and continuing his path to the WWF Championship. At WrestleMania IV that title became his.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
