6 Ups & 1 Down From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (June 27)

3. Revenge For Mr. Money In The Bank

Including multi-man matches, last night’s bout between Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn was the eighth time they’d crossed paths in the ring since April 11th, and their third one-on-one contest. Such repetitive booking is a big reason behind SmackDown’s recent dip in quality, but this was their best singles match yet, and it produced a logical outcome.

Zayn had pinned Corbin twice prior to last night, and Mr. Money In The Bank was finally allowed some revenge. He bullied Sami throughout the match, and while Corbin took a few licks himself, he eventually nailed his opponent with the End Of Days, and scored the three-count.

These two have developed good chemistry together, and the match layout was perfect, with Zayn playing the fiery underdog to Baron, the overbearing heel. Most importantly, the crowd were switched on throughout. They knew Zayn has had Corbin’s number lately, which made a third victory believable, though it ultimately wasn’t to be.

The win keeps Baron’s post-MITB momentum rolling, and Sami loses very little on the back of a strong performance. These two probably need a break from each other now, but they put forth a solid offering last night.
