6 Ups & 2 Downs From ROH Supercard Of Honor 2024

2. Fun Match Is Also Misjudged

In a surprise offering, Bullet Club Gold defeated the random unit of Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer and Alex Zayne. This is a match that is hard to gauge. In and of itself, it was a lot of fun.

Suzuki could do this in his 90s, and looking at the nick in which he keeps himself, that's not too silly an exaggeration. His act is still a lot of fun live. Chops don't hurt him. He's Suzuki. Austin Gunn was a delightful moron for getting this wrong time and time again in a fun running joke. It was fun. Did it need to go 15 minutes? Absolutely not.

Less is more more often than not, and this was an excuse to get fans to sing Kaze Ni Nare before Zayne took the pin, let's be frank. Zayne was really good in this match, not to be too cynical. He created much exciting movement between the customary badass theatre of Suzuki and Archer. The match was fun and an imposition at the time.

When you attend a show, the last thing you want to do is count with a grimace how many more matches are left. Entertaining as it was, it was also worse than pointless: the tipping point that drove Supercard away from true greatness and into merely very good territory. A leaner and more disciplined version of this show would have been even better, but then, you could write that about every Tony Khan-booked pay-per-view and it won't make a blind bit of difference.

Nothing is going to change.
