6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE NXT UK (27 May)
1. Weather Warning
It must be said that, on paper, Trent Seven vs. Sam Gradwell was a great main event. The pair had excellent chemistry together, allowing for some intense moments throughout the match that saw Gradwell hit some stiff forearms.
The outcome of the match, however, ruined this. Trent Seven won when he literally didn’t need to. He’s already at the peak of the NXT UK mountain (pun very much intended), is the tag partner of the reigning Heritage Cup Champion, a former NXT Tag Team Champion, and had a stellar NXT Cruiserweight Championship opportunity mere weeks ago. In what world did Seven need this win?
If they’re building to Seven vs. Tyler Bate for the Heritage Cup, then great. It’ll be a hoot. But we can get there without Seven handing another loss to Sam Gradwell. The guy needs something.
A Seven Stars that seriously winded Gradwell and a BirmingHammer ended the bout, so Gradwell looked somewhat strong by kicking out of the former, but the point stands. ‘The Thunderstorm’ is in desperate need of a major win in NXT UK to move out of the slump he’s currently in. Main eventing vs. a top-tier NXT UK name isn’t enough if he falls at the final hurdle.
