6 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (November 15 - Results & Review)
2. The Young Bucks Might Actually Be Back
This is why people grow frustrated with the Elite. Their tag on Dynamite was almost frustratingly sublime.
Komander is a great prospect but a very spotty wrestler whose work can look a bit tepid and feel a bit loose. It didn't help that he was outclassed by El Hijo del Vikingo amid his debut. The Young Bucks, reminding fans of their brilliance, patrolled him into his tightest and loudest AEW outing yet. The Bucks Vs. Komander and Penta Wl Zero Miedo was an excellent match wrestled in the classic Bucks vein.
It was a heady, turbulent affair in which the Bucks fused pure exhilaration with sophisticated storytelling. The idea was that Nick and Matt Jackson aren't OK. They're checked out. That, or they don't know why they bothered reforming the Elite if Kenny Omega isn't going to have their back. Either way, all is not right.
(That this is a believable, meta development helps considerably, since they are the #1 contenders to the Tag Team titles in the fiction.)
This plot manifested with frequent bouts of miscommunication in the match, a lot of friendly fire, the wonderful arrangement of which allowed Komander to execute some incredible career highlight reel set-pieces. The Canadian Destroyer to Matt off the top rope via Nick's shoulders was jaw-dropping. The Bucks were as adrift in the ring as they have felt spiritually adrift all year. Something had to change.
Nick, his hometown be damned, had had enough and kicked both Penta and Komander in the balls en route to the tainted victory. The thing that absolutely had to happen has happened, and the Bucks felt motivated and present and dialled in again. In a great touch, echoing the events of Revolution 2020, the Bucks stole Chris Jericho's finish to get there, much like they executed the Golden Trigger to Kenny Omega's disgust.
Excellent match, even better vibe - at long last.
