6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jun 26)

4. Begging For A Bludgeoning

Though far from the most exciting episode of Miz TV ever, last night's show-opener came with an interesting dynamic, as the motormouth host welcomed the largely silent Bludgeon Brothers to the set. This followed on from an angle the previous week, when Harper and Rowan's assault allowed 'The A-Lister' to pin Daniel Bryan in the gauntlet match, and unsurprisingly, the former General Manager was Miz's biggest target.

The host delivered a three-part presentation of Bryan's failings. It started with footage of Daniel claiming he wanted to face SD's biggest and baddest, continued with his tense staredown with the Bludgeons, and concluded with the beatdown. Harper and Rowan were menacing throughout. They had little time for Miz, and the former Intercontinental Champion was continually begging them off. It almost exploded when Harper knocked the microphone from Miz's hand, but Bryan proved an unlikely saviour, his music diverting the bad guys' attention.

This led to Daniel challenging one of the Brothers to a singles clash, and Harper was glad to accept. Thus concluded a solid piece-moving segment that furthered last week's developments, booked the main event, and kept the Bryan/Miz tension bubbling away nicely.
