6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 15)
3. Moving Pieces
Rumours that WWE would book a third, tag-based ladder match on this year's Money In The Bank card now look wide of the mark, but SmackDown took a novel way of deciding their latest participant in the men's bout. Instead of holding another Triple Threat or one-on-one, they had two of the brand's top teams face each other in tag competition, with the winning team sending a single representative to Money In The Bank.
The New Day prevailed over The Bar. On the back of a solid back-and-forth bout full of momentum swings, and thankfully short on pancakes, Xavier Woods scored the victory after Big E had speared Sheamus to the floor. A relatively predictable outcome given recent talk of E's seemingly imminent singles push, but a fun bout nonetheless.
Assuming E heads to MITB, it'll be interesting to see what WWE do with Woods and Kingston in the interim. There shouldn't be anything stopping them from picking up the tag slack while the big man ploughs his own furrow as a solo star, though it'd be very WWE to relegate them to the sidekicks. Whatever happens, at least they broke formula to continue this feud, and give MITB a fun new addition in the process: any New Day member would be great in the ladder match.
