6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (13 April)
Ups...
6. The Hook Push
There was a Hook sighting on last night's Dynamite. Lexy Nair was attempting to interview the Team Taz protege when 'Smart' Mark Sterling walked in with Tony Nese, asking why Nese wasn't getting the interview. When they left, Danhausen showed up, tried to curse Hook again, and got a medicine ball launched at him.
A short segment that opens the window for a wider point: AEW is handling this young man's push perfectly.
Too much, too soon has harmed many a promising wrestling career over the years. In keeping Hook's progression slow, steady, and subtle, AEW is mitigating the risks associated with overexposure a growing prospect. Yes, Taz's son is over as hell and looks great in his squashes, but thrusting him to the top and revealing weaknesses that the audience isn't privy to yet would seriously hamper his progress.
For now, it's wise to keep him in midcard angles with another very over, very evil guy like Danhausen, and position him against great professionals with a track record of helping less experienced talents to good matches like Nese.
