6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest (20 July)
3. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus Press Fast-Forward
Jungle Boy returned at Fyter Fest, coming out with a steel chair following Luchasaurus and Christian Cage's victory over the Varsity Blonds. Though Luchasaurus, his former Jurassic Express partner, initially got in his way, the bigger man eventually stepped aside, perhaps re-aligning with the boy wonder, who sprinted after Cage up the bleachers like a Benny Hill chase.
It's nice to see Jungle Boy back after a period on the shelf. He got a nice pop here, too. The Varsity Blonds' took their defeat well, eating dirt from Luchasaurus before Cage snuck into the ring after Griff Garrison took a Chokeslam onto Brian Pillman Jr., landing the pin after doing none of the graft. Good heel work - particularly given the "OUT WORK EVERYBODY" t-shirt he used to wear.
This story could have used more time on the stove before this latest twist, though. Christian's manipulation of Luchasaurus and the big man suddenly turning to his side already felt fast-forwarded. Here, it took the gigantic dinosaur a matter of segments to flip back, which hurts the plot point's believability.
It may turn out to be a strategic move ahead of Luchasaurus turning on Jungle Boy again. That's fine, but this step is important - and needs to feel plausible. This didn't. While AEW shouldn't water their storytelling down to the point that the subtlety hammer drills every single detail, this certainly needed more detail - and time.
