6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest (20 July)

Booking concerns aside, Chris Jericho and Eddie Kingston worked and bled hard in Barbed Wire Everywhere.

Their efforts shouldn't be discredited even if the match's concerns were greater than its positives. Kingston and Jericho got off to a hot start when Eddie smashed into Chris with a barbed wire microphone, having paid tribute to the king of these matches by wrapping his hands and arms like Terry Funk. Jericho took some full-force bumps during these early stages, too. Launched into the barbed wire at 100mph while the Jericho Appreciation Society freaked out in the shark cage, he came to work.

More of a bomb-fest than a slow, agonising build to the bigger spots, this largely revolved around Eddie inflicting brutal punishment on his rival. Nonetheless, Kingston took a fair licking too, with Jericho's top rope Rana particularly poisonous. Later, too, he felt at least half the impact of a superplex off the apron and through another wrapped table.

Remove the overbooking and this would have been a match showing that barbed wire stipulations can work on American wrestling television in 2022.
