6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 29 - Results & Review)

3. Jon Moxley Vs Rocky Romero

Jon Moxley Rocky Romero

In a pre-match promo presumably designed to add a bit of fire to another heatless Dynamite 50/50 filler match, Jon Moxley reeled off his schedule as a way to put himself over as the hardest guy in the world as if that was brand new information. He noted with disdain that he wasn't "pissing away at Disneyworld", but honestly a segment featuring Mox in mouse ears chowing down on a turkey leg at the Magic Kingdom would have been more interesting than the periods he had to sell peril opposite Rocky Romero.

This cannot stop and it realistically never will because on the weeks where a random and ostensibly uninteresting television match delivers a banger and/or a new sensation, AEW is rightfully lauded for platforming it. When it doesn't, the malaise brought about by Just Good Wrestling in an era where greatness is the new normal becomes a grind.

Speaking of a grind, Jon Moxley won again. He had to here of course, but then - as with Double Or Nothing - matches often exist where he has to. Was this one particularly necessary anyway? The IWGP Champion does "show up", as he puts it, but his personal pride isn't quite the evocative draw it was in 2020. The Romero singles "run" continues to confuse.
