6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: New Year's Smash (Dec 27 - Results & Review)

1. Old Friends At It Again

Eddie Kingston Jon Moxley
AEW

Admittedly, Moxley vs. Kingston wouldn't have been this fan's top pick for the final of the Continental Classic when it kicked off, but it will be one hell of a fight at Worlds End. Tony Khan's tournament has been a celebration of everything that's right about tourney wrestling thus far, and there's no reason to expect the finale to sag.

Jon and Eddie going nose-to-nose on Dynamite was pulsating.

Their ongoing story of mutual respect from old friends/warriors, with a similarly mutual understanding that both will do anything to succeed, works. All Elite didn't try to over-egg the pudding here either. Moxley spoke of knowing he's the dominant wrestler whenever he and Eddie lock horns, and Kingston warned him he's not some "young boy".

Fans opposite the hard cam were visibly hanging on every single word and movement between these two. Look out for some callbacks to their "I Quit" main event from Full Gear 2020 on Saturday as well. Workers like this pair love to reference history, so it's almost a given they'll do so at Worlds End.
