6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (31 July - Review)

1. A Creative Way To Sow Dissension

Finn Balor Damian Priest
WWE

The false peace between Finn Bálor and Damian Priest was bound to crumple at some point, with Bálor challenging for Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship and Priest holding the Money in the Bank briefcase.

But rather than the usual pained method of getting there, WWE arrived at this point rather interestingly Monday night.

Priest landed a Razor’s Edge on Rollins in the tag team main event and realized that he had the champ in a prime position to cash in the MITB briefcase. He called for it, but Finn was the closest and hesitated ever so slightly – though he did hand it over and encouraged Damian to use it.

By then, it was too late. Rollins had recovered, and he and Sami Zayn dispatched the Judgment Day to win. From here, Priest has a legit gripe that had Balor just handed the briefcase over immediately, he’d be world champion, while Finn can hold onto the fact he did come through, albeit with a slight pause.

If done right, this could be a subtle wrinkle rather than the ridiculously over-the-top stuff WWE typically relies on. This would be a much more nuanced way to do it, and it’s still one fans can easily follow.
