6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 14)

3. All Rather Aimless

Bayley beating Zelina Vega in two minutes achieved nothing. It didn't do a thing for Bayley, and it made Vega look like some local enhancement talent hired in as a one-off. WWE had a real chance to make Zelina something after her spirited showing vs. Rhea Ripley at Backlash, but they've f*cked that up.

Worse, her losing means sod all for Bayley's own career. So, the match was totally pointless! There's zero call for useless bouts like this on a two-hour show when most of the women's division could really use more direction. By "direction", this writer doesn't mean plummeting someone as plucky as Vega to the bottom of the pile.

Several months ago, she was gamely striving for an upset vs. physical marvel Ripley. Here, Zelina was made to look totally out of her depth and like a lowly jobber. It's all very confusing, and it's the sort of thing that's hard to stomach when she was going in the right direction previously.

What a waste.
