6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 40 - Night 2 (Results & Review)

1. Chaotic Main Event

After assessing using the head, the heart says that the main event – and the aftermath – was the kind of emotional rollercoaster that defies star ratings.

Roman Reigns of course couldn’t defeat Cody Rhodes on his own and needed help, but Bloodline Rules didn’t preclude everyone else from helping Cody. This gave us John Cena getting revenge on Solo Sikoa from last year, and then a tremendous staredown/callback with Cena and The Rock. Each entrance built off the other, and fans in the stadium were on their feet from Jimmy Uso’s run-in through to the conclusion of the match.

But you also have to take into account the celebration after Cody finally finished the damn story, with the babyfaces rushing the ring to celebrate, hoisting Rhodes onto their shoulders. You had Cena, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and LA Knight out there, all wrestlers who were previously thwarted by the Bloodline so they had a vested interest in seeing Roman’s reign end. CM Punk and Triple H also joined the party, and of course, Cody presented Mama Rhodes with the title to really pay off everything dating back to his post-WrestleMania 38 Raw in April 2022.

Rhodes grabbed the mic and declared it a new era, and seeing Cena, Punk, Rock, and Undertaker all play supporting roles as Cody pushed Roman aside, that statement felt 100% true. So, despite the analytical brain taking a swing at the logic gaps, the emotional side has to rate this highly.

If handled correctly going forward, this could be an epic conclusion to WrestleMania… and it was rubber chicken-free.
