Sammy Guevara bringing back the cue card spot days after the biggest defeat of his AEW career scanned as a fairly major misfire from the company typically excellent at rebuilding wrestlers after losses.
Pure heart rule here - the intent was good. Sending him out there with his well-liked ad break gimmick to deliver a statement of intent for 2022 and potentially heat up a third bout with Cody Rhodes made sense in theory. But those picture-in-picutre bits always worked best when he was waiting to wrestle or stirring sh*t up. Here, he was treating us like the Keira Knightly to his Andrew Lincoln.
However this looked in anybody's head didn't work on (half the) screen in execution - Guevara's character felt so desperate for love that he was willing to be literally silenced and marginalised in order to get it.
Likely an off week and nothing more, but a shame to see it nonetheless.
