6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT Spring Breakin' (30 April - Results & Review)

3. Welcome Back Wes!

NXT Oba Femi Wes Lee
WWE

Wrestling is a funny business: Wrestlers suffer gruesome, horrible injuries and bounce back and are in the ring again within a year. Others are forced to retire and then make dramatic comebacks years later. Still others sustain what’s thought to be a mild, run-of-the-mill injury and suddenly have to hang up their boots for good.

When Wes Lee suddenly announced he had been working hurt for some time and needed back surgery in November, it was projected that he would be out of action eight to 12 months. In the interim, talk had surfaced that he might have to retire because the injuries were that bad.

That’s why when Lee’s music hit seconds after Oba Femi successfully defended his North American Championship – and then sprung from the barricade to the steps – it was nothing short of miraculous. Wes had been one of the most popular superstars on the NXT roster before his untimely injury, and his presence was missed these past six months.

Lee clearly is targeting his old North American title, but he really should be considered a top-level talent at this stage of his career in NXT. Having him back is great for everyone all around.
