6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (14 April - Results & Review)

1. Jey Changes His Tune

Last week, Jey Uso got really serious and stared down Gunther to the point where he clearly is rattled. Monday, Uso delivered a different style promo.

Initially, Jey resisted any temptation to “yeet” with the fans, though he let himself dance a bit as the fans continued to rally around him. And since he was there to talk to “my people” rather than the World Heavyweight Champion, allowing himself to loosen up a bit was warranted. Jey admitted he was crashing out, but he was also locked into heading into Saturday’s big match.

Uso also read Gunther’s promo earlier in the night the same as many others: “He mad… man, you afraid.” What was interesting was Jey’s body language and mannerisms this week opposed to last week. Last Monday, he tried to silence fans who were “yeeting” during his promo as he stared down Gunther. This week, Jey encouraged the interplay (even asking for his theme to be replayed briefly), which is critical considering he draws strength from the fans’ reaction.

These last three weeks have measured everything pretty much perfectly heading into WrestleMania 41, essentially rescuing a story that was floundering. Gunther murders Jimmy Uso two weeks ago, leading to Jey all but abandoning his fan-friendly overtones to go toe-to-toe with his opponent, followed up by loosening up Monday night and bringing the fans back into the fold just five days before the biggest match of his life.

One thing left to do: Ring the damn bell.
