2. Gunther Is Shook

It doesn’t matter how strenuously Gunther swore that Jey Uso hadn’t gotten to him; his promo on Monday night brilliantly painted a completely different picture.

The Ring General opened Raw by demanding to bump up his in-ring interview, then shut it down the moment Michael Cole suggested that Gunther seemed flustered by everything. That sent the World Heavyweight Champion into a rage as he told off everyone, lavished praise on himself, and reminded everyone in Jey’s corner that “at the end of the day, the bell has to ring.” Gunther repeated that Jey can’t lace his boots and will lose a fourth consecutive match at WrestleMania 41.

Gunther even went so far as to relish in the memory of taking “a bath” in Jimmy Uso’s blood two weeks earlier and claiming he still was in control – if he had lost control, both Usos would have drowned in Jimmy’s blood.

The promo might have included some truths, but everything was tinged with false bravado; Gunther didn’t sound like he believed his own words as he ranted and flailed about the ring. The big difference between this situation and his “loss of confidence” storyline against Damian Priest is that Gunther knows on paper he still has the upper hand and should win on the night in the ring, but he can’t control the intangibles.

The Ring General continues to be tremendous with his non-wrestling efforts.
