6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (22 April - Results & Review)

1. The Man Captures Gold

Becky Lynch
WWE

Rhea Ripley’s injury threw a wrench in the Women’s World Championship picture, forcing the company to tap a new champion at a time when they couldn’t have been planning to switch gears so soon coming out of WrestleMania 40.

Becky Lynch is marketable, safe, steady and deserving, so tapping her to win the title in Monday’s battle royal is a good call. She outlasted everyone and put out the two biggest women in the match: Piper Niven and Nia Jax. Lynch proved last year while NXT Women’s Champion that she’s more than willing to give plenty of women opportunities to step up and elevate their game, which she could do with the Women’s World Championship.

Liv Morgan has a built-in frustration point, once again coming up just short in a major match. It will likely fuel her anger as she continues to chase the title. It could lead to a heel turn, or just a more aggressive side of Morgan coming out. She’d be an excellent challenger, as would Jax, who still has never been pinned or submitted by Becky.

If you have any doubt about Lynch as champion, look no further than the crowd reaction when she hopped the guardrail and celebrated in the arena with the fans. Safe decision or not, Becky quite simply is The Man.
