6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (April 25)
1. Is That A Character Shift?
It’s a little tough to determine, but is WWE shifting Edge’s character ever so slightly? No, not just going to purple lighting from blue.
Edge’s backstage promo strayed from the purely serious, wordy talks of previous weeks and saw the Rated-R Superstar mock the fans, go for cheap heat by attacking sports teams and politicians (Kane, so that’s low-hanging fruit), and using a goofy voice a few times before focusing on AJ Styles.
It was a lot of the same “mountain of omnipotence” and talk about judgement as before, but in mixing in the other stuff, you have to wonder if they realized that the serious stuff was too serious and down, so they interjected some humor and older heel Edge content.
The result? Not good. Snippets of “Five Second Pose” Edge or the Rated-R Superstar mixed with “Mountain of Omnipotence” Edge isn’t some revelation: It’s a concert where a legendary band performs a few hits, but mostly plays their lacklustre album of new material.
