6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (Oct 2 - Results & Review)
4. Cocktail Napkin Booking
Just keeping tabs here, Raw had six matches on the slate Monday night, but only half of them were on the books when the show went on the air. The latter three matches that took place were booked during the show, including the 20-plus minute main event.
Presumably, the rest of the show was going to be Byron Saxton walking around backstage looking for interviews if no one had decided to challenge another wrestler.
One of the impromptu matches, Tegan Nox versus Chelsea Green, made sense because Nox was supposed to face Becky Lynch for the NXT Women’s Championship, but The Man couldn’t get medically cleared due to a gash on her arm. Making that more of a “filling the hole” match at least was grounded in reality.
However, Drew McIntyre demolishing The Miz was entirely spur of the moment, as was the Intercontinental Championship main event between Gunther and Tomasso Ciampa, which ate up the final half-hour of Raw.
How hard is it to just write a show as if they actually know what’s coming? The haphazard appearance of how things unfold make WWE look like a disorganized mess if one actually thinks about it for more than 15 seconds. It’s simply stupid and lazy and is a practice that should just die.
