6 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jul 29)
2. Brothers In Destruction
Darby Allin and Jon Moxley's Texas Tornado tag with Brian Cage and Ricky Starks came exactly as advertised. This was a wild, unruly arena-floor brawl rife with plunder and worked at a brisk pace, making it easily one of the most fun things on the card.
That the bout didn't even slow down when Dynamite went picture-in-picture speaks to the chaos, though an early miscommunication on a Cage/Starks double-team undermined this somewhat. It wasn't a derailment, though. The rest of the bout breathed life into an otherwise flat episode, with lots of fast exchanges and inventive spots, including a Coffin Drop/Paradigm Shift combo on Cage before Darby brought the skateboard into play.
A sick finish sequence saw Allin olly the board (which had thumbtacks glued to the bottom) onto Starks' back, scoring the pin. Ricky's flesh was torn and bloody. His partner was helpless to help him, too, as Moxley had his problem arm trapped in a crippling submission on the outside.
The post-match yielded next week's Allin vs. Moxley title fight, which goes down next week and should be loads of fun. They have history, an odd mutual respect, and good chemistry, so it ought to deliver.
