6 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (September 13 - Results & Review)

1. Le Sex Gods Talk...

...and talk, and talk, and talk, and talk.

An interminably and inexcusably boring 11 minute conversation between Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara was the last sales pitch for their singles match at next week's Grand Slam edition of Dynamite, but was perhaps the most uninspired chapter of a four-year story.

Uncharacteristically rambling his way through large swatches of the dry dialogue, Chris Jericho's delivery was rough around the edges and failed to tee up his longstanding friend and protege up for any particularly biting replies. The video package should have been the best bit - the story is real! - but repeating the beats of it in a lifeless conversation without a climax made for one of the more bizarre scenes in recent memory. Everything was so half-sold - is the hatred underneath the surface or are they just expressing how they actually feel? Are they just going for the strain of drama already boxed off by MJF and Adam Cole, and if so, how stupid is that? A mooted tag title match when all was said and done next week only muddied the waters further.

Never was it clearer how far this had missed the mark than by the very end. Jericho threatening to punch his friend hard in the face was a closer designed for gasps, let alone cheers and boos. It generated nothing of anything.
