6 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (September 13 - Results & Review)

5. Hangman Page Vs Brian Cage

Hangman Page Brian Cage
AEW

It took a while for Hangman Page and Brian Cage to rediscover the meaty chemistry that aided their terrific rankings-smashing 2021 programme, but in the short few minutes where the magic was present, this was great. By the time the former AEW Champion was reversing his way into cradles and abandoning the Buckshot for an almighty Deadeye, fans were bang game.

A victim of some slightly pedestrian booking after a red hot kickoff to the feud last week, Swerve Strickland's musical distraction and long stare was almost too drab a follow-up. As was Hangman winning despite Strickland's presence. Defeat again to 'The Machine' felt like the bolder move, but it was clear that Cage was only there to be a hurdle this time, at most picking himself back up for a trios match between Mogul Embassy and The Elite before the WrestleDream singles match.

From opening bell to closing shot, this was all good without ever being great. Dedicate former forum poster and hardest of hardcore wrestling fan Tony Khan himself has said that all this weekly analysis is more granular than he likes nowadays, and perhaps this why. This wasn't bad, but never took last week's lit touch-paper and set anything new ablaze.
