False Finish is reporting that the mysterious John Cena Classic will happen on 12 December. However, a location hasn't been determined, and there's no news on whether or not WWE will stick to the format Cena himself laid out when announcing the idea at Backlash in May.

Yes, May. Back then, John rambled on about a concept that had still be fleshed out. He pitched matches pitting NXT stars against top names on the mainline Raw and SmackDown rosters, but then bizarrely said that fan voting would be more important than wins or losses.

Again, it sounds like WWE has some serious thinking to do about how all of this will play out in execution, but there's still time. Most thought that the John Cena Classic would happen over the summer months, but everything went radio silent on the premise shortly after Backlash in Tampa.

Cena himself hasn't popped back up to add any further context.

So, circle 12 December a possible date for the JCC. False Finish's post on X seems to suggest that it'll be a standalone event, but it's also conceivable that the event could fall under the banner of Saturday Night's Main Event. After all, SNME has great meaning to Cena's career - he retired after tapping out to Gunther at one of the Saturday series on 13 December 2025.
