6 Ups & 6 Downs from WWE Raw (23 June - Results & Review)
WWE Raw - Gunther and Goldberg, Cody and Jey, Seth prattles on.
If someone told you that the upcoming WWE PLE would be headlined by John Cena and CM Punk in their final match against each other, plus the finals of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, you probably would think that this is a can’t-miss show and their television programs must be firing on all cylinders.
While Night of Champions might deliver on the night, it’s safe to say that Raw remains mired in a funk of mediocrity. It’s two steps forward, two steps back with the red brand these days. Open the show with another Seth Rollins promo, then let Bron Breakker and Penta pull together a decent match. Deliver a disappointing Queen of the Ring semifinal but close with a solid King of the Ring semifinal.
Perhaps the best part of Raw outside the ring came in two talking segments that hyped a match that might last all of four minutes and probably will be a car crash to ogle rather than a classic confrontation to study. You can thank Goldberg and Gunther for being dialed in and delivering when it counted most. Otherwise, Raw would have been a letdown.
Raw needs something to jolt it back to life. The creativity that dominated in 2023-24 seems a distant memory now, and even the wrestling is suffering. But hey, everyone got to “yeet” and sing along to Rollins’ theme, so it’s all good, right?
Let’s get to it…
