6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 8)

5. Random Negatives

Rather that overwhelm this column with “downs” that really aren’t tragically bad, let’s just lump a couple of them together here in one encompassing item.

We know that the “audience” noise is piped-in sound from previous shows, not the ThunderDome fans yelling into their computers. So that means someone had to decide to press a button to play the “Shane-O-Mac” chants in the opening segment. There are plenty of full-time wrestlers who don’t get that kind of reaction, but Shane McMahon shows up randomly and practically gets the “Holy S***” treatment. Wonder if it has anything to do with his last name…

WWE might be topical by having Bad Bunny on Raw these days, but they’re notoriously decades behind in pop culture references. One of the worst that you might have missed is Lacey Evans’ new verbal tic: a weird laugh that she never did before this recent run. However, it’s pretty clear what it is: She’s mimicking Jim Carrey’s laugh from Ace Ventura… a 1994 movie. Must be trying to win over the 39-49 crowd there. (You can hear it twice in the video below, at 2:15 and 4:40.)

After being a major part of several recent episodes, there was nary a mention of Alexa Bliss on Monday night. She was somehow competing for the Raw Women’s Championship and tormenting Randy Orton simultaneously, and then vanished this week. That’s quite and about-face there.
