6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 8)
3. Stumbling Backward Into The Plausible
WWE likes to boast that it’s all about “telling stories,” but they simply aren’t good at that aspect of the entertainment business.
Witness the ongoing Lacey Evans/Ric Flair/Charlotte Flair saga, which started with Charlotte chasing her father off after he screwed up interference. Then it segued to him palling around with Lacey and interrupting Charlotte’s matches repeatedly, intimating they were in a relationship and just antagonizing.
Suddenly on Monday, Nature Boy and Evans cut a promo about how Ric doesn’t take orders from any woman, especially his daughter. He knows his daughter doesn’t need him, but Lacey has all the talent to be a star, and he’s going to train her until she’s ready for Asuka. So Ric wants to feel useful, and he’s taken another blond female superstar under his wing to train her to be as good as his daughter.
All of this would have been a perfectly acceptable storyline from the outset, but not after weeks of stupidity. We’re now expected to believe that has been the case all this time and forget about all the foolishness. Sorry, we’re too far down the road on this one to suddenly detour to the plausible.
