6 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 42 - Saturday (Results & Review)

DOWNS…

7. A Lackluster Opener

It’s clear why WWE chose to open WrestleMania 42 with the six-man tag involving two YouTube sensations and the guy with a Yeet-along entrance. They wanted all the clicks and attention while the PLE was broadcast on free television.

But as a wrestling fan, the match was a big letdown, a whole lot of nothing going on, and nothing to really rally behind. The entire match was premised on IShowSpeed doing something spectacular, and the finish seemingly came out of nowhere, with heel miscommunication leading to a BFT on Austin Theory for the three count.

Afterward, we got our viral social media moment, with Logan Paul turning on Speed, and the Usos and LA Knight coming to his aid and setting Paul up on the announce desk for Speed to frogsplash off the ring post.

It was a great moment that will do incredible numbers on social media, but it’s hard to give positive marks to one flashy move. Let’s call this a tepid “down” overall.
