In case you missed it, or don't follow any member of The Way on Twitter, Johnny Gargano was able to finally break his Championship defence curse on last week's episode of NXT. So, to celebrate this phenomenal achievement, the clan took a police escort to the arena and basked in the brilliance of their North American Championship holding leader.

After Gargano had sung his own praises for a spell, his wife, Candice LeRae gifted him a commemorative plaque before Austin Theory and Indi Hartwell revealed their own odd surprise; An Avengers inspired mock-up of the squad. How sweet.

Gargano then went one better by announcing that himself and Theory would be entering the Dusty Rhodes Classic alongside the likes of Undisputed Era, Imperium, Legado del Fantasma and many more units.

Blowing a hole through The Way's celebration in her own distinct way, Shotzi Blackheart soon arrived and blasted a rocket straight into Austin Theory's wedding tackle with her tank. As you do. Looking for revenge on LeRae, Blackheart then cleared the ring, setting the stage for a KUSHIDA sneak attack on Gargano and an impromptu match thanks to show host Dexter Lumis. He'd already drawn the match graphic, after all.

With Blackheart focused on LeRae and KUSHIDA aiming to prove he's worthy of a North American Championship shot, the unexpected match eventually saw Gargano almost clocking his own wife before the happy couple had their arms butchered in stereo. Not even a Theory distraction could throw off the pair as Gargano was soon drop toe-holded into his protege's knackers. KUSHIDA and Bleackheart would then score the all important victory thanks to a roll-up from the former, turning a happy occasion into something Way worse.
