6 Ups And 2 Down's From UFC 251
3. Up: A New King Takes The Crown
Petr Yan took his place as the new champion of Bantamweight, where most people saw him as the rightful king on his way up the division.
The bout was much more competitive than many assumed, but it was clear Yan is a bulldozer with immense power and has the ground skills to match his impressive striking. He ended up taking it to one of the most dominant featherweight fighters of all time every round.
Aldo managed to sneak in some killer body shots, but whenever Yan landed on Aldo's jaw you felt it through the TV, and in the fourth round Jose began to tire from the Russian's relentless pace.
Yan never seemed to slow, and in the fifth after dropping Aldo early, he completely mauled him on the ground for an uncomfortable amount of time. The canvas would be painted red with blood before the referee finally ended it and Petr had solidified himself as undisputed champion.
It perfectly sets up his first defense against Aljamain Sterling that many thought should have been going down at UFC 251 to begin with, and brings order to a division that was in chaos due to Henry Cejudo vacating the title.
